Kikusui Handicraft Museum

This museum exhibits the collection of Shohichi Inoue, 10th generation of the INOUE family. The collection consists mainly of ancient Oriental porcelain from Japan, Korea and China. This kind of museum is rarely seen in Japan. Over six hundred works of art including Important Cultural Assets, wood carvings, bronzes, and arms are exhibited.

A superb collection of pottery and porcelain, paintings, and arts and crafts of the Koryo and Yi dynasties of Korea are housed in this museum. In addition, regional art works are exhibited. The Nakano family, owners of the Dewazakura sake brewery, owns this collection. The family opened their old style Japanese house as the museum. There is also an annex showing the paintings of Shinichi Saito.

DEWANOYUKI SAKE MUSEUM

A collection of literature and items related to sake and rice production in this region are exhibited. Yamagata prefecture is well known as a rice and sake region in Japan. Sake can be translated into "rice wine," although it's made very differently from wine. There is a souvenir shop and sake tasting is also available.

Homma Museum of Art

The wealthy Honma family renovated their second home into this private museum in 1947. The collection includes celadon bowls of the Koryo dynasty of Korea, Raku tea bowls by Chojiro, ancient Japanese paintings by KURODA Kiyoteru and MARUyAMA Oukyo as well as other cultural assets. There are 100 pieces of Japanese paintings, 160 of western paintings, 10 of sculptures, 100 of art and craft works, 120 of ceramic works 100 of brush paintings, and 600 or prints are housed.

The Kaishu Ichizo Museum

A collection of Aizu clan family, especially more than 300 pieces of various tea articles, related Sen no Rikyu, KOBORI Enshu, and FURUTA Oribe are exhibited. The exhibition would be changed regularly.

The Miharu Folk Doll Museum

A collection of folk toys, dolls, as well as clay figures of Tsutsumi-yaki, Hanamaki clay dolls and other clay figures of Tohoku region are exhibited.

Uesugi Shrine Keisyo Palace Museum

A collection of Japanese paintings, literature, swords, armors, Buddhism articles, ceramic ware and lacquer ware as well as the collection of UESUGI family; local clan family are exhibited. Some of them are designated as the Important Cultural Properties. The architecture of the Keisho Palace has the nice harmony with Uesugi Shrine. This museum was established in Taisho period.

A collection of Japanese paintings, literature, swords, and armors by local artists, as well as Narushima-yaki are exhibited. This museum was originally established in 1930, the annex was built in 1966.
